GEORGE NEWS - A group of cyclists arrived in George shortly before 11:00 on Friday 3 March, marking the end of a gruelling road cycle tour that put the spotlight on Down's syndrome.
The Correctional Services Goodwood's Mountain View Cycling Club did the tour in collaboration with Down's Syndrome Association of the Western Cape (DSAWC).
The group of 12 men, aged between 40 and 57, departed from Parow on Monday 27 March and cycled the 473km to George over five days. Most of the participants are correctional officers.
Their first stop was in Gordons Bay, followed by Grabouw and Caledon, and they spent the night in Bredasdorp. On the second day they rode to Riviersonderend with a stop in Swellendam.
From Swellendam they cycled to Heidelberg and then Riversdale.
On the fourth day they overnighted in Mossel Bay before riding to George, where they were received by Pieter Nel and his team from the George Lions. It was the 21st year that this tour took place.
The group arrived in George via the R102 on Friday.
