According to the Eden DM Municipal Manager, Godfrey Louw, the academy in particular seeks to provide culinary skills training for people who are unemployed in the Eden region.
Two training programmes in cater care training and City & Guilds skills respectively were rolled out recently to give young people the opportunity to access jobs in the local hospitality industry. The first group, consisting of 10 candidates, started with the fourth round of the training programme on 3 June and completed the course on 12 July 2013.
The second group, also consisting of 10 candidates, started with the fifth round of the training programme on 15 July and will complete the course at the beginning of October 2013.
"Candidates of both groups were recruited according to specific criteria, compiled by the Eden District Municipality. Before the first group started with the practical part of the course, they appeared to be over-excited about being part of the programme. Most of them said that they will continue to develop themselves to eventually follow a professional career in the hospitality industry. And for some of them, it is a dream come true," Louw said.

Participants in the fourth round were Adeline Human (Pacaltsdorp), Desiree Jacobs (Karatara), Sangosethu Gwavu (Thembalethu), Shaida Jansen (Thembalethu - originally from Knysna), Princess Magaw (Thembalethu), Pamela Ponoyi (Thembalethu), Tsepo Leeuw (Waboomskraal), Romeo Fisher (Pacaltsdorp) and Sarel Maris (George). With them are Francois Ferreira (principal) and Carol Wicht (vice-principle).
