GEORGE NEWS - Unreasonable quotations from private service providers is the reason why Georgians have to currently deal with their own trash. Earlier this week an announcement was made that due to some of the staff in the Cleaning Division having tested positive for Covid-19, the service will be stopped for the next two weeks.
“The department continues with efforts to secure a private service provider but is being faced with unreasonable quotations that are not tenable,” said municipal spokesperson Chantel Edwards-Klose.
“Regrettably the pandemic situation is being exploited. The George Municipality is committed to rendering essential services in the face of the many Covid-19 challenges, however our officials have a right to confidentiality and privacy.”
She confirmed today that the date for resumption of the removal of black bags will be made public as soon as possible.
For the interim, the municipal transfer station has been opened for the public to drop their black bags should they choose to.
The paper also enquired about the status quo of the traffic department, as some officials had tested Covid-19 positive two weeks ago (George Herald, 21 May). Edwards-Klose replied that the George Municipality continues with all essential services, including traffic services, on a daily basis.
