GEORGE NEWS - The George Municipality Transfer Station on the R102 (airport road) is open for the dropping off of black bags while refuse collection is halted due to positive Covid-19 cases in this department.
As per announcement on 1 June, refuse will not be collected for 14 days, starting today (2 June), following confirmation of staff in this section testing positive for the virus.
The municipality is taking extreme precautions to limit the spread and safeguarding its staff and clients, and has closed all relevant offices and will be sanitising such facilities.
Members of the public must please not put out their black bags for the next two weeks. The Transfer Station will temporarily receive general waste in black bags while collection in neighbourhoods are not taking place.
Please note blue and green bag collection for recyclables and garden refuse continues as usual. Please DO NOT place general waste in blue and green bags. Only blue bags containing recyclables and green bags containing garden waste will be collected.

The Transfer Station is open Monday to Friday 07:30-17:00 and Saturday 08:00-14:00 (closed on Sundays). The entrance to the transfer station is on the R102 (airport road) - from York Street turn towards the airport and look out for the signage on the left.
