GEORGE NEWS - Members of the George Audit Committee (AC) waited in vain for three reports to serve in the George Municipal Council at last Thursday's meeting. Not a single audit report by this committee has yet served this year.
Items on audit reports have been withdrawn by Council in May and now again in July. If all goes according to plan the combined reports will again serve in August.
Audit Committee chairperson, Dr Adéle Potgieter, attempted to iron out initial confusion on whether the reports served or not.
"The audit reports did not serve at the last council meeting, it was the response of the portfolio Councillor for Finance, Stag Cronjé, that served and was deliberated. That is why the independent reports are being served again today," she said in Council.
All geared
Council was quite willing and eager to make headway and accept the recommendations as set out by the AC members.
However, problems arose when it became clear that some of the proposals made by Cronjé at a previous meeting, which have been accepted by Council, are duplications of recommendations made in the audit reports.
To make sense of this predicament, Council accepted a proposal to withdraw all three items on the audit reports and resubmit their combined recommendations (pertaining to the audit reports of 25 January, 5 April and 31 May) at the next council meeting in August.
It was also resolved that any duplication of recommendations should be removed and that the next report for July be tabled independently.
