Anonymous, George:
It is seems from the emerging layout of the N2 upgrade roadworks between what was the traffic circle at the Kraaibosch Sasol filling station and the bridge close to the Garden Route Mall, that there will be no provision for safe pedestrian and bicycle access along that section of the road.
Given that it will be the only access way into and out of George for those not able to use a motor vehicle, would the municipality please take steps to ensure that appropriate pathways are constructed, either by Sanral [South African National Roads Agency Limited] or the municipality, whichever is the responsible entity in this regard.
Sanral responds:
No changes are planned to the geometric layout of the N2 between the Radermacher's traffic circle and the Kraaibosch interchange.
Pedestrians currently follow a 'desired line' on the service road - from the BP filling station towards the antique store, crossing a fence onto an existing concrete footpath, then via a ramp to Mossel Bay onto another existing concrete footpath parallel to the Kraaibosch crossroad.
Future plans (currently under construction) include bus bays and pedestrian footpaths - also to be used by bicycles - on the Victoria Heights service road between the Radermacher's traffic circle and the new Victoria Bay traffic circle.
