GEORGE NEWS - Two people from Blanco, Melvin van Wyngaardt (26) and Roseline Pietersen (33), will make their next appearance in the George Magistrate’s Court on Monday 22 September for their formal bail application.
They stand accused of the assault of an 83-year-old man and violent house robbery at his farmhouse on the R404 to the airport near Blanco on Friday 5 September.
They remain in custody.
According to the Southern Cape Police’s spokesperson, Sergeant Chris Spies, the victim left his residence at about 18:00 that evening. When he returned home later, he encountered the two suspects in his bedroom.
They allegedly assaulted him, tied up his hands, packed up some groceries and personal belongings and fled the scene.
It is further believed they also made off with a shotgun.
“The victim was only discovered the following afternoon, Saturday 6 September, when a neighbour noticed him tied up inside the house. He had sustained injuries to his body and was transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment,” says Spies.
