Crystal and Peter Barlow:
On 27 February, I fetched my husband (90) from the frail care facility where he resides to have a declaration of existence signed in front of a Commissioner of Oaths at the police station in Courtney Street. I expected it to be an arduous task, having to get my husband and his wheelchair in and out of the car, and the possibility of no parking when we got there. But, as the saying goes, the excursion turned out to be "a walk in the park". This is why...
Not only were we blessed to find a parking bay right in front of the police station but, as I got out of the car and opened the passenger door to get my husband out, an Angel in the form of Captain John Jonkerman, who was on his way to the entrance of the station, came over to me and asked if there was something he could help us with.
I explained about the form that had to be certified, after which he told me to just give him a minute and to let my husband stay in the car…as he was going to fetch a board so that my husband could sign it in the car… but then he saw it was a struggle for my husband to put his signature on the form, so he went back into the station and brought out his kit to do a thumb print after which he went back to stamp and sign it and got a colleague to co-sign.
Well, I could not thank Captain Jonkerman enough for his kindness! He just smiled and said, "This is what we're supposed to do".
Thank you again Captain... may your act of kindness inspire others.
