York High brings Broadway magic to the stage

ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - York High's learners brought a touch of Broadway magic to the stage with their spectacular production of Beauty and the Beast, which opened on Tuesday 18 August and ran until Friday 21 August.

Audiences were treated to a polished performance, and the learners impressed with their acting, singing and dancing. The dancers added incredible depth and energy to the production, with Jade Heyns standing out as The Rose.

What a pleasure it was to see Grade 12 learner Taelin Reuter take to the stage one last time in a lead role. As Gaston, he brought his own unique flair to the pompous character, making the role thoroughly entertaining and memorable.

The production featured a talented double cast, including Isabelle Botes and Amy Barnardo as Belle, Mia Schoeman and Cassandra Benade as Mrs Potts, Leah Langiza and Carmen Erasmus as Chip, and Kyle de Bruyn and Caleb Dickson as Lefou.

The cast and crew put in many hours of hard work and rehearsals to bring the production to life, as they continued to rehearse until just a week before the start of their preliminary examinations.

Behind the scenes, a dedicated team helped to bring the production to life. Darelle de Lange directed the show, Linda Johnson was the dance director and Monya Owen and Mario de Lange provided vocal coaching.

The production was supported by teams responsible for costumes, props, lighting, sound, set design and decor. The result was a colourful and energetic production that showed the remarkable talent and dedication of the Yorkies.
