Ianthe was fantastic, raking in no less than 8 medals: 2 golds for 50 and 100m freestyle, 2 silver for 200m freestyle and 100m breaststroke and 2 bronze for 400m freestyle and 200m breaststroke.
She was also part of the relay team that walked away with two bronze medals. Other members of the relay team in the girls 11 and 12 age group were Izell van der Westhuizen, Marichen Heroldt, Aimee Salter and Sarah-Ann Moir.
In the boys section Wouter Zonnestein performed well against a very strong field in the freestyle events, finishing second to Christopher Reid of Aquabears who broke the previous record. He took home 2 silver medals for the 50m freestyle and 100m freestyle.
Other top 8 finalists who were in the running for medals included Francis Heroldt, Lune van der Westhuizen, Izell van der Westhuizen, Marichen Heroldt, Caitlyn Price, Emma Kiely, Jamie Nortjé, Nick Coertze, GJ Troskie, Martin Tallie and Trevor Austin.
A total of over more than 500 swimmers participated in 251 events, making it one of the most significant club events in the country. The Aquabear Swimming Club hosted 20 clubs from around the country as far afield as Cape Town and Pretoria. The significance of the gala was highlighted by the presence of Ryk Neethling who entered a strong team from his Players Academy based in Pretoria.
