The course was held over a four-day period at Hartenbos. Instructors from all over South Africa attended this historic occasion, with the intention of improving their understanding of what it is to be a professional martial arts instructor.
Kancho Rony Kluger (8th dan Goju Ryu Karate-do, 8th dan Japanese Jui Jitsu, 4th dan Judo, and president of the IBA and Karate-do International Remei) conducted this specialized instructors seminar, mixing sessions of theory with intense practical training. The seminar covered all aspects of being a martial arts teacher, ranging from analysing a student's abilities (strong points and problem areas) to the layout of classes and how to create a practical training programme that covers the short, medium and long-term progress of each student.
This was the first ever martial arts seminar in South Africa that covered not just the practical part of martial arts, but rather focussed on producing a better quality and higher class of professional martial arts instructor.
At the end of this gruelling four-day workshop, sensei Wessel was awarded a Senior IBA instructor diploma, and both sensei Elrié and sensei Paula were awarded IBA instructor diplomas. Other instructors from the Southern and Eastern Cape that received their diplomas were Shihan André van Vuuren, sensei Kobus Klue, sensei Wessel Boonzaaier, sensei Gideon de Villiers, sensei Wouter Pretorius, sensei Adrian May and his wife sensei Natalie May.
