GEORGE NEWS - Run/Walk For Life (RWFL) is a South African organization, founded in 1983.
With over 120 active franchises located throughout South Africa, Australia, the United Kingdom as well as Zimbabwe, RWFL has 32 000 members. Expansion plans include the USA and New Zealand.
RWFL is a proven exercise-based (walking and running) programme, integrated with a nutrition programme for all people, young/old, fit/unfit and/or overweight.
The program is very structured and supervised, with a strong medical foundation. RWFL was born out of an attempt to meet the needs of sedentary people, as well as to promote well-being through exercise.
As a member of RWFL, you will be personally monitored in much the same way as if you had a personal trainer. Exercise is prescribed in a manner that is tailormade for the individual. Vital to our program is that you don't over-exercise and equally that you don't under-exercise.
RWFL was the first exercise programme in SA that enjoyed Heart and Stroke Foundation approval. RWFL are partners of Discovery Vitality, Futurelife and Asics. Based on thier relationships with many companies and organisations, a member will participate and receive many benefits - and can earn up to 300 Discovery Vitality Points per session as well as receive discounts on Asics shoes and various items and services.
Although RWFL has a registered athletic club, with more than 600 runners participating in the Comrades Marathon annually, their structured programme also caters for those who are currently a little out of shape, want to get fit and shed a few kilograms, but feel uncomfortable and/or intimidated by joining the local gym or running club.
RWFL George is unique in that it has a morning and afternoon training session to accommodate the weather and hectic schedules. They stay in touch with their members and community via the local newspaper and social media.
Exercise does not come easy for many people, and many do not find it an enjoyable pastime. The two simplest, and most enjoyable, activities are running and walking. Not everyone can be a runner, but even the elderly can manage a little stroll, albeit at a modest pace. Whichever activity you choose, exercising outdoors can be fun, refreshing and prevent boredom.
Running and walking are great ways to meet new people, forge lasting friendships, network and generally have loads of fun. This could be the most fun you've ever had while shedding those unwanted kilograms.
Researchers have found that those who exercise regularly, at a fairly brisk intensity, will live longer. So go on….get back at your kids and live to be a hundred!
