Eden Chess hosts closed tournament

CHESS NEWS - The Eden Chess Union hosted the annual Eden Closed Tournament at the George Lodge last weekend, 6 and 7 December.

The top 14 players and the top five women participated.

The brainpower was fully engaged, and there were some proper battles on the boards.

The time control was 60/60 plus 30-second increments.

On Saturday, three rounds were played, and on Sunday, the final two rounds concluded the tournament.

Results

Ladies section

• 1st place: (Eden ladies champion): Kayleigh Cornforth

• 2nd place: Sienna Brewis

• 3rd place: Rebecca de Swardt.

Men's section

• 1st place (Eden men's champion): Raynier Claassen

• 2nd place: George Swart

• 3rd place: Kyle Thoresen.

The Eden Chess Union thanked every player who participated, the committee for hosting this event, and all the individuals who sponsored goodie bags for every player, took photos and, for the first time in Eden Chess history, provided a live-stream of board 1 in the men's section, which was a milestone event!
