GEORGE NEWS - Thembalethu Primary u.13 boys were crowned the champions in the Blue Ribbon Sports Festival on Friday afternoon after beating Mzoxolo Primary boys 3-0 in the final. The game was played at the Imizamo Yethu High sports complex.
Liseko Viti (brace) and Awonga Sawutana netted the three goals for Thembalethu Primary.
Four primary schools took part: Thembalethu, Mzoxolo, Tabata and Tyholorha.
Thembalethu Primary was undoubtedly the most improved school in the tournament, displaying great football skills throughout.
In the first semi-finals, Thembalethu Primary u.13 beat Tabata Primary 4-0 while the second semi-final saw Mzoxolo Primary u.13 beating Tyholorha Primary 1(3)-1(4) on penalty shoot-outs.
The first half saw one goal, scored by Thembalethu Primary winger Liseko Viti. In the second half, both schools were pressing for more goals, but it was again Liseko Viti who extended their lead to make it 2-0 after set play from the centre of the field.
Awonga Sawutana pulled the third goal to reach the final score of 3-0. Thembalethu Primary received a trophy plus gold medals and a playing kit.
The star player Liseko Viti told George Herald that it felt great to help his school win the trophy and said he wants to continue playing soccer to eventually play in the Premier League.
Netball
On the netball court, the Tabata Primary u.13 girls walked away with the first prize after beating Tyholorha Primary 11-3 in the final. Both teams had positive moments during play, but Tabata Primary showed greater determination. Tabata won Trophy with gold medals and a set of playing kit.

Blue Ribbon representative Ntombi Nyumbane said they are looking forward to continue their support for sport development in schools and urged locals to keep on buying the brand so that they can be in a better position to give back to the communities of George.
