GEORGE NEWS - The sound of leather on willow echoed across George as 12 schools from the Western and Eastern Cape battled it out in the We Buy Cars U15 Cricket Tournament from 8 to 11 October.
Four days of all-action cricket produced flashes of skill, determination and future promise.
The matches were hosted at Outeniqua High, York High and Glenwood House, and the teams showed plenty of promise despite some inconsistent performances that come with early-season cricket.
Local rivals York High and Glenwood House faced off in a spirited ‘derby’ that drew a small but lively crowd.
York claimed bragging rights with a 26-run victory, scoring 170/9 in their allotted 20 overs before restricting Glenwood to 144/3 in reply.
Brayden Pietersen of Glenwood House stood out with a composed 49 off 51 balls, a standout effort in a hard-fought chase.
The tournament once again underlined the depth of schoolboy cricket in the region - and why fixtures like these remain a highlight on George’s sporting calendar.

Lizzy Henderson took a wicket with the fourth ball of her first over with this delivery.
