GEORGE NEWS - The Eden District proudly hosted its very first Western Cape Pentathlon Championship last weekend, welcoming 90 athletes from across the Western Cape, Free State, KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.
The event took place at Glenwood House, and marked a historic milestone for local sport.
A major highlight of the championship was the inaugural use of a brand-new obstacle course - the latest addition to the district's sporting infrastructure. Athletes of all ages tested their strength and agility on the track, which stood out as a crowd favourite.
A sunny day combined with the beautiful Outeniqua Mountain range created an ideal backdrop for this multidiscipline competition, which included fencing, an obstacle course, swimming and laser run events.
All the athletes brought exceptional energy, preparation and sportsmanship to every event.
The youngest athlete was eight years old, and the oldest, a determined competitor in his 70s, showcased the inclusive and inspiring nature of modern pentathlon.
The success of the event is a promising sign of growth for the sport in the Eden District, and organisers hope this championship marks the beginning of many more to come.
