ATHLETICS NEWS - Hoekwil was alive with excitement on Saturday 10 May when nearly 500 runners took part in the 3km, 10km and 21km 2025 Cape Multisport Club Road Race.
The village was filled with laughter and the steady rhythm of pounding feet. It couldn't have been a better winter's morning, either - cool, crisp and full of promise.
The 10km and 21km runners set off at 08:00, winding their way along the breathtaking Seven Passes Road through Touwsranten.
Rolling farmland, fresh mountain air and the majestic Outeniquas in the distance made it easy to forget the burn in tired legs.
One of the day's highlights was without a doubt the support from the Touwsranten community. Locals lined the route with smiles, cheers and home-made signs, creating a warm, uplifting atmosphere that meant the world to the runners.

Although a few cheeky hills put runners' stamina to the test, it was the vibrant water tables that truly stood out. Marshals and assistants went above and beyond - cheering, motivating and handing out water with contagious enthusiasm.
Their energy provided a much-needed boost for weary legs. A burst of winter sunshine lit up the final stretch, offering a picture-perfect welcome at the finish line.
Waiting at the end was a cosy, country-style bazaar by the NG Church Die Vleie, complete with chicken burgers, pancakes and the joyful sounds of the Hoekwil Donkiekar Band. Runners and supporters relaxed on hay bales, shared stories and soaked in the festive atmosphere.
The organisers would like to thank every runner, whether they joined the fun run or braved the half-marathon.
They said everyone's energy and enthusiasm made the event truly special. A big thank you also went to the generous sponsors, whose support made the event possible.
