SCHOOL NEWS - This World Maths Day, 26 March, Peregrine Capital has launched its 24SumMore Maths competition nationally.
This CSI initiative is designed to energise maths education in primary schools and give learners across Grades 4 to 6 the tools, confidence and motivation to excel.
Following the success of a pilot programme that ran in 54 primary schools in Gauteng last year, the campaign is now rolling out nationally to more than 300 schools across South Africa.
The 24SumMore competition brings the excitement of mental maths into classrooms through a fast-paced, engaging format that challenges learners to think quickly and creatively.
It makes maths learning fun and accessible, helping learners build confidence while competing for meaningful prizes. In doing so, the programme shifts how learners relate to maths, from a subject to be feared to a skill to be celebrated.
“Mathematical excellence doesn’t happen by accident - it is nurtured. This competition reflects our continued commitment to developing confident learners who see maths as a skill worth celebrating. The problem-solvers we support in our schools today are the leaders and innovators of tomorrow,” said Jacques Conradie, CEO of Peregrine Capital and a former national maths champion.
The competition is run directly by schools, providing learners and teachers with a structured and engaging event that brings schools together around a shared goal.

As South Africa’s longest-running hedge fund firm, Peregrine Capital recognises the critical role that financial and mathematical literacy play in economic participation. “We see this initiative as far more than a competition. It reflects our belief that access to excellent maths education should not be a privilege,” added Conradie.
World Maths Day, observed annually on 26 March, highlights the importance of numeracy skills in shaping life outcomes. Peregrine Capital’s decision to launch the 24SumMore competition on this day underscores its commitment to making maths matter — not just in the boardroom, but in every classroom.
