NATIONAL NEWS - Grade 10 learner Unam Halam of Heatherlands High School in George pitched the Drop Saver project that she and co-learner Faith Classen had devised at the 2022 Stockholm World Water Week (SWWW) in Sweden yesterday, Monday 29 August.
The Drop Saver project is a contender for the Stockholm Junior Water Prize.
The Stockholm Junior Water Prize is a key part of SWWW every year, as an international competition for innovators aged between 15 and 20 from across the world who have developed solutions to major water challenges.
This year, 36 countries are represented at the Stockholm Junior Water Prize competition.
Halam and Classen secured their spots and participation in SWWW when they won the SA Department of Water and Sanitation’s science and technology-based South African Youth Water Prize competition in May this year.
Classen could not make it to Stockholm due to personal reasons, but she has left the project in the trusty hands of her close friend and classmate to carry their and the country's flags high.
Hear some feedback from Halam about her time in Sweden so far.
