Unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show last month and initially limited to China, the Terra will go on sale in the Philippines powered by the long standing 2.5-litre YD25DDTi that served in the previous Pathfinder and Navara, which produces the same 140kW/450Nm as the current Navara’s 2.3-litre twin-turbo.
For the Philippines, the Terra will be offered in three trim levels; Mid, High and Premium with a six-speed manual gearbox standard on the Mid 4x2, while the remainder of the range will be equipped with a seven-speed automatic. Only the flagship Premium can be had with four-wheel drive.
Set to not only rival the Fortuner but also the Ford Everest, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and Isuzu MU-X if given the green light for South Africa, notable creature comforts on the Terra, depending on the trim level, includes the seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and satellite navigation, dual-zone climate control, push-button start and cruise control.
As for safety, and again depending on the model, the Terra has items such a 360 degree monitor, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Vehicle Dynamic Control, Hill Start Assist, Hill Descent Control and Automatic Braking and Blind Spot Monitoring.
Until otherwise indicated, the Terra will remain a local market no-no.
