Set to debut at the Beijing Motor Show in April, the production Terra differs little from the model leaked in December last year, the only differences being fog lights, indicators integrated into the mirrors and silver finishes inside the fog light bezels, and marks Nissan's return to the pick-up derived SUV segment since discontinuing the R51 Pathfinder in 2012.
Directly aimed at the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Everest, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and Isuzu MU-X, the Terra's interior mirrors that of the Navara and depending on the model selected, will likely incorporate the same level of standard equipment but with improved safety levels.
According to previous reports, the Terra will go on sale in China powered by a 137 kW 2.5-litre petrol engine, although exports models will more than likely come powered by the Navara's 2.3-litre diesel engine in single and twin-turbocharged forms. A six-speed manual gearbox is expected to be standard with a seven-speed automatic optional on some models.
At present, Nissan is yet to confirm whether the Terra will come to South Africa, and if it will keep its Chinese market name or perhaps be designated Xterra, even Pathfinder or indeed Terrano, the latter revived in 2013 for a re-badged version of the Renault Duster in India.
