Using the standard two-door Wrangler hard-top in both Sport and Rubicon guises as a base, the renders, based on spy shots taken earlier this month, sees the Wrangler receiving a new bumper and grille, redesigned headlights, LED daytime running light mounted on the wheel arch flanks and X-motif LED taillights.
As per previous reports, the production Wrangler, snapped last month on what appears to be factory floor of parent company Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles' Toledo, Ohio plant, will make use of aluminium to keep weight down, and also see the return of a pick-up model wearing the long dormant Scrambler name.
While FCA has so far remained mum on engine details, speculation is that the Wrangler will be powered by a new 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine dubbed Hurricane, a revised version of the 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 and a 3.0-litre EcoDiesel (CRD) V6 shared with the Ram 1500 and Jeep Grand Cherokee.
A new eight-speed automatic gearbox will reportedly replace the outdated Mercedes-Benz sourced five-speed unit used until now, with a six-speed manual standard on lower spec models.
