Using the name affixed to British versions of both it and the regular Pajero, and likely to be the final hurrah for the current model with a facelift version due soon, the Shogun is based on the top-spec 4x4 variant, but adds R60 000 worth of optional extras without this being reflected in the standard R639 995 sticker price.
As part of the upgrade, the Shogun gets a black nudge bar, towbar, a set of Thule roof racks, bonnet protector, black door handles, window film, black-and-silver Shogun decals at the base of the front doors, Shogun branded carpets and the biggest and most welcome addition, a new seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth, USB, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Standard equipment is otherwise unchanged along with the engine, which sees the Shogun making use of the 2.4 DI-D turbodiesel that makes 133kW/430Nm, backed-up by an eight-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters. As ever, Mitsubishi’s SuperSelect II system, which allows for the change from 2H to 4H to be carried out at up to 100km/h, is standard along withHill Descent Control, Active Stability and Traction Control and a rear diff-lock.
Included in the above mentioned price are a three year/100 000km warranty and a five year/90 000km service plan.
