The latest model in the Woking based automaker's Ultimate Series of models, the Senna rides on the same carbon fibre Monocage III platform as the 720S, but extensively updated to tick the scales at 1 198 kg, making it the lightest McLaren since the iconic F1.
Externally, the Senna features a more extreme take on McLaren's current design language, with a number of aerodynamic additions claimed to be "the purest expression yet of [its] form follows function design philosophy". These include a F1-inspired carbon fibre double diffuser, hydraulically adjustable rear wing, slim LED taillights, unique side louvers aimed at efficiently channelling air down side and two winglets on the flanks of the front bumper.
Underneath its skin, the Senna receives an equally enhanced version of McLaren's independent double wishbone suspension with hydraulic dampers, known as RaceActive Chassis Control II (RCC II). Again aimed at providing the maximum connection between driver and car, the setup boasts a kinetic roll system called K-dampers, and a new two-valves per damper arrangement that can be adjusted independently.
Along with a four mode drive selector; Comfort, Sport, Track and Race, the latter activated by a roof mounted switch, the Senna, according to McLaren, features the most advanced braking system to date with motorsport grade carbon ceramic stoppers and lightweight alloy wheels wrapped in bespoke Pirelli PZero R rubber.
Motivation is provided by the same 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine that powers the 720S, albeit fettled to produce 588 kW (800 PS) and 800 Nm of torque. No performance figures were revealed with the amount of twist going to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
Restricted to just 500 units worldwide in both left-and right-hand drive configuration, pricing for the Senna in the UK starts at £750 000 (R13 733 056), although all are reported to have been sold out.
