The concept will display Ford’s vision for a new global B-segment compact car that embodies everything the modern consumer would be looking for in terms of fresh design, value, safety and connected technology.
South African and Sub-Saharan African markets can look forward to a production version as plans have been confirmed but the details and specifications haven’t been released yet.
The latest compact sedan comes with a brand-new design language including a trapezoidal radiator grille and other rugged style elements.
An added, smart design feature, are electrically adjustable power-fold side mirrors, also built with flexible architecture, thereby preventing them from being broken off completely, in case of accidents or bumps.
The interior is said to be more spacious, containing innovative stowage compartments. Along with the in-car entertainment system, it will also include a novel device dock. The concept vehicle allows seamless integration to the entertainment system while introducing new technology allowing for a new way in which to store, mount and charge cell phones, MP3 players and navigation devices.
Regardless of the compact car segment’s rapid growth, the Figo Concept is set to be highly competitive and will demonstrate Ford’s plans to deal with the growing global demand for compact vehicles and the need for safer, more connected vehicles. In creating a more refined value-for-money vehicle, designers included design elements, more commonly found on high-priced vehicles.
Ford Motor Company’s vice president of design, Moray Callum, says Ford took a “no compromises” approach in designing the Figo Concept. The design is meant to be clean and elegant in order to convey a sense of precision, efficiency, sophistication, as well as to provideglobal standards of safety, design, quality and performance.
