Until now known as the A32/A36, Mercedes-AMG boss Tobias Moers has confirmed to US publication Car and Driver that the A35 will be offered in both sedan and hatch bodystyles, with power expected to be at “around 300 horsepower” or 224 kW versus the A45’s much rumoured 400 horsepower (298 kW) output.
The article further claims that the “35” designation could be expanded to include other models namely the CLA and GLA, although no mention of the GLB has yet been made. Like the A45, the A35 will send its grunt to all four wheels via a performance tuned 4Matic all-wheel drive system, with a 48-volt electric motor likely to feature in providing the A35 with a mild-hybrid setup.
According to a report by motor1.com, the A35 could bow at the Paris Motor Show in October before going on sale in 2019. The A45 meanwhile is rumoured to make its official debut in a few months’ time.
