Heading for the Los Angeles Auto Show in November, the 50 second clip shows the still camouflaged X7 being put through its paces in and around Spartanburg, South Carolina where it will be build, as well as the snow covered surroundings of Sweden and dry and dusty gravel roads of our very own South Africa.
Although the teaser provides no new hints of the X7’s exterior despite the revealing drawings, what is known is that Munich’s rival to the Mercedes-Benz GLS and Range Rover will provide seating for six or seven, ride on the same CLAR platform as other X models, including the 5-and-7-series, and measure 5.1m in overall length.
As per previous spy images, the interior will resemble that of the X5 and come with BMW’s version 7.0 operating system integrated into the new iDrive infotainment system, the equally new all-digital instrument cluster and Swarovski crystals embedded into the gear lever of the eight-speed Steptronic gearbox.
With wheel sizes ranging from 21 to 22-inches and featuring Active Steering as the X5’s optional Off-Road pack, the X7’s engine choices will more than likely mirror those of the X5, namely the 250kW/450Nm 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six in the xDrive40i, the 350kW/650Nm 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 used in the xDrive50i and the 195kW/620Nm3.0-litre straight-six turbodiesel that powers the xDrive30d.
Still to be confirmed as the possible rival for the AMG fettled GLS 63, the X7 could spawn an M60i version powered by the M760Li’s 448kW/800Nm 6.6-litre twin-turbo V12, or even the X5 M50d’s quad-turbocharged 3.0-litre diesel that produces 294kW/760Nm.
Local availability is still to be confirmed but if so, expect the X7 to debut in mid-2019.
