In a since deleted post on twitter, of which a screengrab was taken by US publication Road and Track, the famed engine constructer wrote, “We’re famous for breaking records and our latest engine, the Aston Martin Valkyrie 6.5-liter V12, will be the world’s most powerful naturally aspirated road engine with 1130 bhp. #Cosworth #AstonMartin”.
The result of a collaboration between Aston and the Red Bull Racing Formula 1 team, whose chief designer Adrian Newey is involved with the project, the LMP1 styled Valkyrie made its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show last year as the production version of the AM-RB001 concept, with a claimed output of 671kW and featuring an F1-style energy recovering system.
Based on the above mentioned tweet however, it would appear that Aston’s provided output didn’t take the electric motors into account, as the alleged figure claimed by Cosworth translates to 842kW, eclipsing those of the turbochaged-hybrid Mercedes-AMG Project One (±740kW), the normally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 Ferrari 812 Superfast (588kW) and the 544 kW, 6.5-litre V12 Lamborghini Aventador S.
Although unconfirmed, speculation is that the Valkyrie, which will have a 1:1 power ratio, limited to 150 road going examples and a curb weight of 1 030kg, could challenge the Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo for the outright lap record around the Nürburgring, which currently stands at 5min 19.546 seconds.
