GEORGE NEWS - In a historic moment, the book launch of probably the youngest writer in George was celebrated at George Library on Monday 11 September.
Six-year-old Liam Tait, a Grade 1 learner at Holy Cross Primary, had the support of his teacher, entire class, close family and a guest school, Fun in the Son, for his big day.
Liam's book, A dream of animals, is the result of a project over the June school holidays, which he undertook with his aunt, Rehelda Williams.
Liam read from his own book during the launch on Monday.
"The entire project was his idea," said Williams. The artwork is also his own and dates from his pre-primary years until recently. The simplicity of the sentences and the colourful glossy pages are right up the alley of any child between the ages of three and five.

According to Liam's mom, Phyona Tait, they will have to order another batch of books, since family and friends already bought the whole lot. Liam donated a book to his school and to George Library.
The book was self-published and printed by Blending.co.za in Pretoria.
For the Taits, it was quite an experience to go through all the motions of self-publication. Now that his first book saw the light, Liam is already working on a second publication - this time his focus is on gems.
"He is very interested in the sales aspect, and asked me today how many copies sold," said Phyona.
After he lost his father, George police investigator Wendell Tait, during the Covid-19 pandemic, Liam enjoys the support of many women in his tight-knit family circle.
"We want him to know that he is not a victim, but empowered," said Phyona. For orders, contact Phyona on 082 553 0052.

Children’s librarian Garelene Muller entertained the children by reading from another library book during their visit to George Library.
