GEORGE NEWS & VIDEOS - York High learner Danica Orange (15) initiated a fun walk in the neighbourhood for the whole school, in aid of Phambili, a local shelter for abused women and children.
Spearheaded by Orange, a member of the Representative Council of Learners (RCL) and headboy Ludolph Pedro, all 900 plus Yorkies marched off this afternoon at 12:00 in support of this cause.
At R5 per learner, roughly R4 500 will be donated to the shelter. Teacher Brooke May explained that the school dedicated this week to celebrate women, in the light of Women's Month.
An ex-Yorkie, Tanya Scholtz, paid the school a visit on Monday 1 August to talk about unconventional successes by women. Scholtz was chosen last year to join the Springbok Women's Ruby team.
