GEORGE NEWS - Tabatha Primary School, one of Thembalethu's newest schools, has made a considerable mark at the South African Schools Music Eisteddfod.
Tabatha's senior choir will represent the Western Cape on Tuesday 1 July at the national competition held at the Rhema Bible Church in Randburg, Gauteng. They will compete in the Western piece and indigenous folklore categories, showcasing their talent on a national stage.
This follows after the choir's recent participation in the provincial eliminations at the Sports School in Kuilsriver, Cape Town, excelling in two categories: a Western piece with the English song "The Dam Busters" and an indigenous folklore performance featuring the African song "Khuzani".
Earlier this year, the choir secured first place in both categories during the regional eliminations in Riverdale, paving the way for their provincial triumph in Cape Town.

A journey of gratitude
Choir conductor Nontsikelelo Morgan expressed the school's excitement over their achievements. "We are thrilled with our progress and deeply grateful to our supporters who have prepared us for this incredible musical journey," said Morgan.
She extended special thanks to the organisations that provided essential school materials, including the George ND Mother Church, the United Reformed Church of South Africa (Thembalethu Congregation), the Baptist Church in Thembalethu and the Inkcubeko Youth Centre, along with numerous individual contributors.
Morgan also acknowledged the technical guidance of mentors Jan-Eric Swart and Jacques Lackey, who played a key role in refining the choir's performances.
Additionally, she expressed gratitude to Prophet Mzoxolo Panduva, the station manager of online radio station Ithembalethu FM, for his unwavering support and prayers. The choir was further inspired by visits from two American choirs, the Colorado Repertory Choir and the Second Presbyterian Church Sanctuary Choir, which enriched their musical experience.
