A tremendous amount of R341 000 was raised with this year's event, the most ever in the history of the George Relay. Certificates were handed over to everyone.
The team that collected the most money was 4x4 In Paradise, who raised R47 377 under the leadership of Linda Anderson and Janette Pretorius. On their heels were Dis-Chem, George Hospital and Outeniqua High School.
Phambili Civils received a certificate for the team with the best spirit and George South Primary for the best stall.
Minette van Zyl, the manager of Cansa Southern Cape Karoo, said the Relay was like one big fight in the community in one night.
"With the money that sponsors and teams raise, Cansa is enabled to do what they are passionate about out there and make a difference in the lives of thousands of people."
Van Zyl made special mention of Carpe Diem School - where the event was hosted again this year.
Chairperson Adèle Potgieter announced that she is stepping down after four years of steering the committee. She said she will never stop being an ambassador for Cansa. "I will be at the Relay next year, perhaps with my own team. I believe that it will only get bigger and better," she said.
Volunteers are always welcome on the committee. Interested persons may contact Cansa's office on 044 874 4824.
