GEORGE NEWS - Appearing for the second time this year in the George Regional Court on Monday 17 July, the five accused in the War on Waste case will be back in court on 18 September for a trial date.
With their appearance on 29 May, the case was postponed to 17 July for the state to decide on a forum.
Last Monday they received their third court date for the year, and it was established that the case will be heard in a commercial crimes court.
The accused are former municipal manager Trevor Botha, former director of community services Walter Hendricks (currently municipal manager of Oudtshoorn), former George mayor Melvin Naik, municipal official Wessel Robertson and Rowan Botha.

• Former Southern Cape secretary of the ANC, Mzwanele Major Sokopo (48), and a former South African Revenue Service (Sars) accountant, Ndileka Precious Mfunda (55), appeared in the Thembalethu Regional Court on Wednesday, 12 July, where a next court date was established for pre-sentencing on 29 September.
Both Sokopo and Mfunda were acquitted of all charges of tax fraud and theft on 17 May, but found guilty on charges relating to the contravention of the Tax Act.
The case was postponed to September for the accused to get the reports of correctional supervision and the probation officer.
