GEORGE NEWS - Blikkie Blignault experienced some very anxious moments when he lost his cellphone with all his bank cards, ID and driver's licence in a pocket in his phone cover.
Were it not for two kind Go George employees, he would have lost a lot of money and would now still be going through the tedious and costly processes to replace everything.
He had been shopping at New Harvest off Cradock Street. While loading his parcels into his bakkie, he put his phone onto the sidebar. Forgetting it there, he drove off, turning towards the transport hub further down the road.
As he passed the hub, two attentive Go George employees, communication champion Pastor Thembinkosi Ntseke and bus driver Mergo Laws, travelling in a bus behind him, saw the phone fall down onto the street. One of the bus' wheels narrowly missed it, too.
They stopped to pick it up, but could not chase after him in the bus.
Ntseke found Blignault's son's number on his phone and sent him a WhatsApp message to say that he had the phone.
Some time later, Blignault realised it was missing and returned to New Harvest where the manager, Louise Dekster, called his phone. "Someone immediately picked up. It was Pastor Ntseke. He said he would wait for me at the Parkdene bus stop at the hub. While I was waiting there, a commuter told me to go to the information kiosk so that they could find out how long the bus would take.

"Still very anxious, I approached the information officer there, Thembisa Matya. She also called my phone and the pastor confirmed that I just had to stay put. When I got back at the stop, the bus arrived and Pastor Ntseke jumped off to give me my phone.
"I was incredibly relieved and will be eternally grateful to them. They saved me from a heap of trouble and perhaps from losing money through my bank card."
