GEORGE NEWS - The Early Act Club at Outeniqua Primary School received special recognition for its amazing community work at a recent regional conference of the Rotary service organisation.
Three Grade 7 learners of the club, Jinique Frans, Carla Raubenheimer and Ilze-Mari Rohwer, made a presentation on the multitude of projects that they have been involved in.
Special mention was made of their outreaches to the Môreson Child and Youth Care Centre and the Milestone Development Programme (previously known as Wikkelwurms) at Bethesda.
The club was recognised as having the best project for 2023 and 2024 in the region covering the area from Plettenberg Bay to the Cape Town Metropole, and northwards including the Northern Cape, Namibia and Angola.
Rotary sponsors Early Act at primary schools to provide young learners with opportunities to be active citizens in their communities.
George Rotary Club handed over the award during a school assembly on 15 July, where school principal Dr Nico Venter said part of their mission is assisting and empowering learners to understand the need in their community and to assist them in making a positive contribution.
He said Early Act provides a way for the school to do that.
George Rotary outgoing president Di Kershaw said they are proud to be associated with the Outeniqua Primary Early Actors. "Their initiatives embody the leadership, compassion and community spirit our country needs."
