GEORGE NEWS - Ayanda Ngqeza, formerly from George now living in Johannesburg, decided to give back to the community in which he was raised.
Ngqeza gave 10 pupils a pair of school shoes each while George Mayor Charles Standers bought each pupil two pairs of socks.
Ngqeza, underwriting manager at Lateral Unison, a short-term insurance broker company, decided to give shoes to MM Mateza Primary School as his late father, Lungile Ngqeza, was the first headmaster at the school. His father retired in 1997 and passed away in 1999.
All four of the Ngqeza siblings attended MM Mateza. "My wife and I are both giving back to the communities from which we came. I know of a lot of people like me who moved out of their home towns. If all of those people give back to their communities it will make a great change for the better. The shoes are just the beginning," said Ngqeza.
Sinothando Rooi (11) said she can now wear her full uniform with proper socks and shoes while Mkhululi Bani (7) said he is "very happy".
Standers said all people should take a page out of Ngqeza's book and support our children, because they are the future.
"We should support children in their education so they can make a success of their lives," said Standers.
