GEORGE NEWS - Four new station commanders have been appointed at the George, Conville, Thembalethu and Knysna police stations.
Garden Route District Commissioner Major General Phumzile Cetyana welcomed the new heads of stations at a media briefing held on Monday morning, 10 March at the district head office in George.
With more than 130 years experience between them, Brigadier Zuluthando Nosilela and Colonels Anton Stander, Sipho Dyani and Nicholas Warnick are set to make a tangible impact at their respective police stations and related communities.
George Police Station
Brigadier Zuluthando Nosilela recently took office at the George Police Station. With 31 years of service under his belt, he brings a wealth of experience combined with strong advocacy for ethics to the region's capital. The brigadier started his career with what was previously known as the Transkei Police.
He also served in the Ciskei before being transferred to the Western Cape in 2014 where he held station commander positions at Laingsburg, Hermanus and then Malmesbury before taking the helm at George Police Station. Nosilela is candid about his Christian beliefs and says bringing change to any environment starts with oneself. His approach also includes taking care of the workforce to minimise grievances and personal problems, which would in turn positively affect service delivery.
Conville Police Station
Conville Police Station's new station commander is Colonel Anton Stander, a seasoned policeman with more than 35 years service experience. Before being transferred to Uniondale Police Station in 1992, Stander spent a year serving on the Special Guard Unit of the State President and his ministers in Cape Town. In Uniondale, he quickly proved his worth and was appointed as station commander in 1997 - a position he held for the past 27 years.
Stander says healthy discipline and service delivery are non-negotiables. He intends making a difference at Conville Police Station and in the community through enhanced cohesion between police members to work as a team towards the common goal of service delivery.
Thembalethu Police Station
Thembalethu Police Station has been entrusted to Colonel Sipho Dyani, a long-serving policeman with 34 years experience. Dyani cut his teeth in the force at Nyanga and Philippi East police stations - valuable experience he believes will give him the edge he needs to succeed in Thembalethu.
Dyani has previously served as station commander at the Kwanokuthula, Great Brak River and Heidelberg police stations. He values respect and harmony in the workplace as well as respect towards the public he serves. He says police officers should come to work and work. Since they are employed by the public, he says police officers should be available to the public while on duty.
Knysna Police Station
Knysna Police Station is fortunate enough to be led by Colonel Nicholas Warnick, who is not only a very experienced policeman but also an appointed advocate in the High Court.
"The foundation of law helps us to understand our work better and make informed decisions pertaining to what is lawful and what is not lawful," says Warnick.
Having served in Gauteng, the Eastern and Western Cape, including as a relief commander and as a member of the Economic Infrastructure Task Team in Cape Town, Warnick places a premium on service delivery. He intends to, with the assistance of the police station and the community, spend the remaining six years of his career making an impact in Knysna.
