GEORGE NEWS - The ongoing legal dispute between Patriotic Alliance (PA) politician Brendon Adams and the DA Western Cape's leader, Tertuis Simmers, has been postponed to 6 June in the Bellville Magistrate's Court, after the court had granted the parties an opportunity to attempt mediation.
According to Adams' attorney, Reagan Brown, the matter was postponed to allow mediation processes to take place before the case proceeds.
Their dispute stems from a harassment order previously obtained by Simmers against Adams in Bellville, relating to alleged defamatory remarks made on social media. Adams has denied wrongdoing and had previously described the matter as politically motivated.
The tensions between these two politicians escalated earlier this year following Adams' arrest in George on allegations that he had contravened the protection order. Adams appeared in the Thembalethu Magistrate's Court in March on charges linked to alleged contempt of court and crimen injuria.

At the time, he claimed the case was "all politics" and referred to an exchange in the Western Cape Provincial Parliament in which he had claims Simmers had warned him that "Pappa" - referring to the police - would be calling him.
Simmers previously stated that the legal action was aimed at protecting his reputation from what he described as ongoing online attacks.
The matter is now expected to resume in the Bellville court on 6 June should mediation efforts not resolve the dispute.
