GARDEN ROUTE | KAROO NEWS - On behalf of all of us at the Garden Route Food Pantry, but even more importantly, those who will benefit from the amazing soup we will be receiving for distribution, a very big THANK YOU!
As you are already aware, we are partnering with a Gauteng based NGO called Chefs with Compassion, who instigated this project and are pushing to make 67 000 litres of soup nationwide.
We are proud to be part of this campaign which will benefit our own people and we look forward to building onto this project even more in the years to come.
Just a couple of things for the soup cooking this year:
- Please do ensure best health practices when cooking, many of the children receiving the food have weakened bodies and can be very sensitive to possible food poisoning.
- If the soup is being brought to us on the same day it is being made, it can be brought while still warm. Otherwise please do bring it cold, or even frozen, so as to make sure no bacteria growth.
- If possible, please put into plastic containers that you wont necessarily need back – as the soup will be going from us to the soup kitchens, it may be difficult to get back.
- The beneficiaries will be collecting on Monday 18 July, from around midday, so it would be great if all soup can be delivered to us by then at the latest – we will be open from 7pm already. 1 Glaze street (next door to Takealot – same road as BMW)
- Very Important: While making your soup, please take some great photos! We will be sending them to Chef’s with Compassion as well, so some fun pics will be very welcome! They can either be emailed to us, or even via Whatsapp to 082 826 0731
People need food every day of the year
A final note – although we are truly excited about this project and your support, please keep in mind that we do this every day of the year – ie. Sourcing food for the most vulnerable. If you are ever in a situation where you’re able to help out again, please do make contact with me.
We not only do we do food rescue to try and prevent the wastage of food, but we also bake our own highly fortified biscuits for malnourished children. Soon we will be launching our own pasta range as well, also fortified with micro-nutrients.
All of this takes funding, which is hard to get in our region – so please keep us in mind for your next CSI where we can also provide a Section 18A certificate.
