GEORGE NEWS - The Keep George Clean team held yet another cleanup on Saturday 7 December from Pick 'n Pay Knysna Road all the way to the Garden Route Mall.
Buco, PPP, Outeniqua Powervan, Steel and Pipe, George Emergency Power Supplies and 123 Stor-it sponsored the effort.
This was the last cleanup for the year. "We are hoping to start again in mid-January next year after the school holidays," says Charl Marais, founder of Keep George Clean.
"We have been busy daily, mostly in the industrial area and it looks as if our efforts are inspiring others to also keep clean around their businesses, because the industrial area has really been looking much neater. But it is a constant activity we have to maintain," says Marais.
"From early morning sweeps to routine maintenance, we are committed to ensuring our community stays beautiful and tidy."
Their clean-up efforts started off as an initiative to clean up areas along the railway tracks through the town to the Outeniqua Mountain to improve the views of visitors riding in the Powervan.
"We can not do this on our own. We need every Georgian's help and would love to see their own clean-up projects and efforts in their own neighbourhoods and work places. Whether it is picking up litter on your morning walk or organising a local clean-up event, every little bit helps," says Marais.
He invites residents to share their clean-up moments on social media and use the hashtag #KeepGeorgeClean.
"Let us inspire one another and show what we can accomplish together. Spread the word and encourage your friends and neighbours to like and follow the Keep George Clean Facebook page. The more we share, the more we can motivate others to join our cause," says Marais.
