GEORGE NEWS - The University of the Third Age (U3A) has started its August programme last week, but there are still a number of interesting talks lined up for the rest of the month.
In Armchair Travel on Wednesday 13 August, Gail Powers will entertain the audience with a talk about her cruising adventures.
This includes the first cruise from Singapore to Livorno she and her husband, Dudley, undertook. They enjoyed it so much that they completed three further trips. The meeting starts at 10:30.
In Friday 22 August’s lecture, Tilla Raimondo will present ‘Nature lovers wanted’ and explain the Custodians of Rare and Endangered Wildflowers (Crew) programme.
Raimondo is a botanist by training and is passionate about conserving indigenous fynbos and forests. She works for the South African National Biodiversity Institute, where she is responsible for the species threat status assessments for South Africa. Tea is at 10:00 and the talk starts at 10:30.
August’s International Affairs with Case Rijsdijk is on Monday the 25th.
At the general meeting on Wednesday 27 August, Wilhelm van der Vyver will present ‘Ragtime - 100 years of fun music’. In this talk, he will review and play a selection of ragtime music to celebrate its centenary.
Van der Vyver is a practising attorney in George and his interests include films, classical music, travelling, literature and art. Tea is at 10:00 and the meeting starts at 10:30.
