GEORGE NEWS - About 600 children attended the three-week holiday programme presented by Life Community Services from 3 to 21 July.
Two programmes were run in tandem - one for children aged 3-5, held at the Happy Feet Pre-School in Parkdene, and the other for school children from grade one to 12, held at the Life Kitchen on the corner of Nelson Mandela Boulevard and Main Street.
The children came from communities all over George, like New Dawn Park, Protea Park, Borcherds, Conville, Thembalethu, Lawaaikamp and Parkdene.
Different themes were presented, including drama, music, Bible stories, arts and crafts. Children played sports and games and a workshop on dreams and life goals was presented for the teenagers. Life also encouraged children to bring recyclable materials along and taught them about keeping their communities clean.
Life Community Services needs products to provide many of the children with medical care, bathing, and treatment of hair and scalp conditions. They would appreciate donations of soap, toothpaste/brushes, deodorants, sanitary pads, Vaseline, body lotion, shampoo and washing powders.
Life is very excited that their "Home from Home" foster home has been approved and are looking forward to welcoming four little children into their fold.
They are in the process of refurnishing the home in preparation for their arrival, but are short of a number of items to turn it into a home. Items they need are: baby eating chair, baby cot, fridge, DVD player, radio, vacuum cleaner, side table, kiddies Bibles, stove, iron, kettle, any other kitchen and household appliances, cleaning products and groceries. Any contributions will be greatly appreciated.
Life Community Services children collected recycling material, which was sorted and delivered to a local waste factory.
Anyone who wants to make donations is asked to drop them off at Life Community Services' offices, 122 Cradock St, phone 044 873 6601 or e-mail to reception@lifecommunity.co.za.
