George Mayor resigns
Out with the old, in with the new. Ex Mayor Mercia Draghoender with newly appointed mayor, Basil Petrus.
GEORGE NEWS - In a surprising turn of events during this morning's special council meeting at George Municipality, both Mayor Mercia Draghoender and Speaker Basil Petrus resigned.

Petrus was then uniformly selected by the DA coalition as the new mayor of George.

The new speaker in council is DA councillor Daniel Maritz.

Deputy Mayor Castro Leholo was replaced by DA councillor Lionel Esau after a motion of no confidence against him was carried.
