GEORGE NEWS AND VIDEO - Residents of George and Thembalethu stood in solidarity with other South Africans in a plea to seek justice for Cwecwe on Tuesday 1 April.
In October 2024, the seven-year-old girl known as Cwecwe was allegedly assaulted at a private school in Matatiele, Eastern Cape.
The incident reportedly occurred while she was waiting for her transport after school.
Her mother has been actively seeking justice, expressing frustration over the school's inadequate response and the lack of progress in the investigation.
Public outrage has been widespread, with the hashtag #JusticeForCwecwe gaining traction on social media platforms. Activists, celebrities, and political organisations have joined the call for accountability.
Sithonga Dlomo from the Garden Route Men's Sector, who organised a march in Zone 3 in Phelandaba, Thembalethu, delivered a powerful message at a community meeting.
He declared that men must stand united against gender-based violence, speaking as fathers, brothers, sons, and leaders who believe real men protect, respect, and uplift - never harm.
He condemned perpetrators, stating they do not represent true masculinity but disgrace their families, communities, and nation. He urged law enforcement to act swiftly, stressing that justice delayed is justice denied.
He said stronger prosecutions, harsher penalties, and unwavering protection for victims are essential. Perpetrators must face the full force of the law - no excuses, no silence.
The investigation remains ongoing, with many advocating for a thorough and expedited process to ensure justice for Cwecwe.
