GEORGE NEWS - The George Business Chamber has been ultra secretive about the details of its much-anticipated GBC Gala Awards evening next Friday, 21 October.
Now we know it was well worth the wait.
Ticket sales went live this week and the venue was revealed as the freshly remodelled, vintage Hawthorndene Country Hotel in Heatherlands - now renamed Hawthorne Boutique Hotel.
Dating back to the 1940s, this George landmark has been lovingly and beautifully restored. With several of the unique features retained, the spectacular venue takes you back to a bygone era.
The evening's menu has been specially created with the vintage theme in mind and each course promises to be a taste sensation.
Guests can spend the night at the Hawthorne at a reduced price exclusively available to gala guests. Contact the hotel on 044 023 0070.

Guest speaker
The gala guest speaker has rubbed shoulders with world leaders, royalty, artists and most famous (and infamous) people across the globe. Zelda la Grange, an Afrikaner girl from Pretoria, was at late President Nelson Mandela's side for 19 years as his right-hand woman. She is also a founding member of the Nelson Mandela Foundation which served as post-presidential office for Nelson Mandela.
She bases her talk on her life experiences and the time spent in service of Madiba. Her memoir Good morning, Mr Mandela will be available at the event.
Master of ceremonies is the stunning actress and filmmaker Lika Berning. The daughter of actress Jana Cilliers and director Regardt van den Bergh, the film industry courses through her veins. She is also the founder of iKasi Creative Media.
A video produced by filmmaker Johann Nysschen will take you on a magic carpet ride through the ages while the event programme is sure to become a valued keepsake.

GBC Business Awards
The most important highlight of the evening is the announcement of the 2022 winners in the four business categories:
GBC Entrepreneur, GBC Service Ambassa-dor, GBC Business Leader and GBC Infor-mal Trader. The public still have two days to vote for their favourite. And retaining an element of mystery, the chamber let on that two special awards will be presented on the night, but kept mum on the nature of these awards.
See the accompanying article for details about the finalists and how to vote.
