GEORGE NEWS - Christiaan Viljoen, curator of the Garden Route Botanical Garden will be giving a talk on forest birding which explores the rich diversity of forest bird species within South Africa’s smallest biome.
The talk will be held at the botanical garden on Saturday 5 April at 10:00
Covering the unique challenges and rewards of forest birding, it delves into specialised bird calls, habitat layers, and sought-after species like the Narina Trogon and Knysna Turaco.
A highlight of the presentation is the importance of birding by ear and understanding the role of microhabitats in supporting avian biodiversity.
After the presentation, Viljoen will accompany those interested on a birding stroll through he garden (maximum 12 participants ). People attending are advised to bring binoculars.
The talk will be preceded by the Wessa Eden annual general meeting which will be very swift. The venue is the Environmental Education Centre at the Botanical Garden.
