GEORGE NEWS - The Hoekwil Primary School and Wilderness centenary will be celebrated from 4 to 7 May and the organisers call on everyone interested to become involved to make this an event worth remembering.
The festivities will stretch over the course of four days with the grand finale on Saturday 7 May at Hoekwil Primary.
On Wednesday 4 May, the festival starts at the school where a centenary wall of fame will be inaugurated and in the afternoon a history talk is on the programme from 16:00 to 18:00.
The school will bury a time capsule on Thursday 5 May, which will be followed by a tree planting ceremony at the school and in Wilderness.
A sculpture by Hoekwil artist Ian Visser will be unveiled in Wilderness in the afternoon and a traditional dinner with live music will be held in the evening.
On Friday 6 May, the public can make use of the Hop & Stop pub crawl bus and in the evening enjoy a black tie gala evening with VIPs.
Saturday's programme will kick off with a family fun walk at the school.
There will be a potjiekos competition, stalls, entertainment, games, a beer garden and live music.
