GEORGE NEWS - Three Grade 12 learners of Eden Technical High had the unique opportunity to explore the finer art of French cuisine during the September holidays.
A local French deli owner, Deseree Danjean of Délices, opened her home kitchen to Amanie Gonyela (18), Alulutho Joka (19) and Jenna-Lee Pots (18) - all consumer studies learners - for hands-on lessons in authentic French cooking.
Under Danjean's guidance, the trio learnt to prepare lamb, chicken, beef, curry and vegetarian pot pies, as well as quiches, and to decorate chocolates and cakes in true French style.
To top it off, they even earned some pocket money for their efforts. "It's actually quite funny. The first thing they did with their hard-earned cash was to buy Kentucky Fried Chicken!" Danjean laughed.
She added that it was a privilege to give back to the community, and that while this was her first time hosting such a workshop, it certainly won't be her last. The school helped select the participating learners. Both Amanie and Alulutho said they plan to study in the hospitality industry.
