Update
GEORGE NEWS - A bail application based on new facts for two of the seven accused who were arrested after Maximilian Reimann (20) was brutally attacked and left for dead in Pacaltsdorp earlier this year, was denied in the George Magistrate's Court earlier today, Friday 23 December.
Bail for all seven accused was initially denied in September this year.
The two accused Johnwill Tarentaal (20) and Chaywin van Niekerk (18) are represented by Clayton Samson of Jansen and Samson Attorneys and Bradley Michaels of Van Rooyen Attorneys.
After much consideration, the court however found that the new facts were not sufficient evidence to release the accused on bail.
Tarentaal, van Niekerk, Shannen-Lee Botha (18), Jody Botha (21), Sheldon Remas (19), Ethan Bevie (21), Chadwill Kiewiet (19) all face a charge of robbery with aggravating circumstances.
They remain in custody in Mossel Bay and will again appear in court again on Friday 30 January for Regional Court screening.
The attack
Reimann was attacked by a group of men in Mission Street, Pacaltsdorp, in the early hours of Saturday morning, 27 August. A passer-by, Charlotte Edwards, found him lying next to the road later that morning.
According to Edwards, Reimann was nearly hypothermic when she found him. He had severe injuries to his face and his clothes were torn off his body.
He was rushed to hospital and later underwent facial reconstructive surgery in the Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town.
He has since been discharged.
