GEORGE NEWS - ANC MP for George Cameron Dugmore visited Jonga High, Thembalethu High, York High and Heidedal Primary School on the first day of school to check on the schools' readiness.
He also made use of the opportunity to share some insights and ideas on education with the school principals, deputy principals as well as ward councillors.
Dugmore is involved in a project for Heidedal Primary, trying to support them in their efforts to build a school hall.
"We're working with the school and department and are also looking at a private sector partnership with the Archway Foundation to try and see whether a school hall here is possible. It's been a longtime dream of the school," said Dugmore.
At Jonga the importance of schools setting up alumnus/past pupils associations to support the school was discussed.
He is to meet with the education district office today (Thursday) to get an overall sense of the first day with a particular focus on any learners who are still not placed.
